Let me tell you about my day

I had a dentist appointment first thing this morning in Brookline so I knew I was going to get a late start. One of the cook's at work had invited me to cook through a recipe with him. I told myself this morning that no matter how terrifying it felt to go into the kitchen, I was not going to back out. But after my dentist appointment, I started planning my escape. I texted him, hey appt running late, not sure I am going to make it. He texted back, no worries, I moved the shot list around. Whenever you get here, we will make the potato pancakes. I think he was on to me.

The first thing that happened when I walked in was another cook from across the room called my name and said, Alice, you need to have this blueberry pancake I just made. Oh also there is warm syrup. I know you probably think this happens all the time at my job, but it happens never. It was the best pancake I've had in my life. Then another cook walked over to me while I was eating my pancake and handed me an apron. The kitchen is not known for being the most welcoming place, so I nearly welled up with tears how kind they were all being.

I was nothing but left hands and awkwardness as I cooked, but that was really ok. One thing I learned is that the cooks use their hands a lot to mix things instead of spoons and spatulas. That made a lot of sense to me, but funny how radical it felt. After we finished cooking, we walked our pancakes over to the photo studio where the stylist took over. And voila, beautiful images happened.
