KPIs

When we lived in Brookline, I always felt that if we kept dishes out of the sink, the bed made, and the patio swept everything else was manageable. In our new boat life, dishes and bed still hold true, but I haven't quite figured out what else is necessary on a daily basis to keep me happy. I had an inkling this weekend when I was feeling a bit down until Sunday morning when Chris and I cleaned and cleared surfaces and I felt this huge sense of relief. I don't think of myself as a fussy tidy person, but yet I'm noticing it does seem to impact my mood.

Along these lines, Chris and I have been trying to make it a weekly habit to look at a few key performance indicators (kpi's!) for our personal budget. Instead of our old method of downloading bank statements and then parsing through the data, we now just look at a couple things such as how much money we spent at restaurants. The weird thing is regardless of whether we think had a great week of low spending or went crazy, the number seems to hold constant. What's up with that?

  1. You haven't heard of the 'C' constant in finance? :)

    1. I was about to comment "hm...I wonder what the constant factor week to week could be??? Definitely not Celia's conspicuous bagel consumption."
