Boat Show

Last night we went to the Boston Boat Show.  Some sailboat friends took us. The place was chock full of boats, mostly power and a few sail.  I was expecting to have major boat envy, and its true all those shiny; clean, deck-crack-free, low-maintenance rigs were nice.  But I have to say our old worn teak interiors were better than anything we saw there.  Plus $350K to a million bucks cheaper.

The best stuff was on the margins of the hall.  I talked to a bunch of guys who fix plumbing, install AC and diesel furnaces.   Plus another guy who thinks he could fix my deck cracks for $65 a square foot.  (I'm pretty sure my marina veteran advisors will tell me that's bull ****. But its one of those fibs that sounds OH SO SWEET.)

Its true I did get suckered into buying some over-priced chemical heat packets, and a bottle of what is basically Windex that keeps fog off your glasses.  But one smart purchase was signing up with SeaTow,  the equivalent of AAA for the ocean.  For $159 per year,  they'll tow you as many times as your engines break down.  Hoping I don't need them this summer, but we've all seen that movie before.

Over at the emergency survival equipment booth, Alice liked this guy in the suit so much she almost left with him.  Lucky for me he turned out to be a manikin.   She said it was still a close call.

  1. When you can drag Alice to a boat show you've officially gone native!
