Ready for winter?
Are we ready for winter? This is the question we are always asked. And its going to be in the 20s over night this weekend!
Here's the to-do list.
A few trips to Home Depot for our latest insulation ideas |
Last weekend
New idea! Experiment time - cut and install foam board insulation for the transom of the boat. I think this is buying us 4-5 degrees of warmth at the head of our bed. (Thanks for your help cutting it Al)
Pink rear-end. Ok, that could have been phrased more delicately. |
We also switched to the winter water (sunken hoses to keep from freezing).
Last night we took care of...
- Put the heater in engine room
- Closed the fuel gauge site tubes
- In the aft cabin, we put insulation behind Chris' dresser
- Inside salon window insulation - starboard
- Inside salon window insulation - port
- Inside window insulation on the bow
- Outside window insulation - port bow
- Outside window insulation - starboard bow
- Salon port cabinets filled with blankets
- Salon starboard cabinets filled with blankets
- Anchor locker filled with blankets / other insulation
To do tonight
- heat shrink plastic film for the big windows inside the salon
- Put plastic sheet layer in small windows
- Fill in a few gaps
- Clean up forward cabin to make room for canvas coming down from the helm up top.
- More insulation in our bedroom and forward cabin
- Plan the deck insulation (more blankets plus pink tiles?)
- Inside plastic sheet for bow windows
- Heater for forward cabin plumbing.
- Put the new 3/4" spring lines in place and double up the others
Saturday morning
- Take down our canvas up on the helm up top. We'll store until we take it to Maine on Thanksgiving.
- Pink tile insulation on exterior port side (this is another experiment)
- LV marine services will the winter shrink wrap of Betty
- Shore up the external bow window insulation
Next week
OMG, Kevin and I are boat failures! We've only done #1 of Next Week, and that's because Rick did it!
ReplyDeleteJen, I think you and Kevin should move into the Carpenter's forward cabin. I mean Chris went to ALL that work to insulate it! Don't insult him ;) ... NICE WORK CHRIS!
