Parallel Path

Last night I was on a mission to figure out a new curtain situation for the boat so decided to walk to Cambridgeside Galleria from my office in the Seaport. Normally I hug the Greenway to get home, but the most direct way to the mall was into the Financial district and then along Congress Street over Storrow Drive and into Cambridge. Essentially a parallel path, but just a little deeper into the "city." As always I was amazed at how just a minimal change felt so significantly different. I kept having moments of Oh this is how these parts of the city are connected! I'm sure this a metaphor for something more meaningful.

Happily Sears actually had what I needed for my curtain project and I'm pleased with the results. Picture to come some day soon.

The picture is of a manhole. I feel like I could do a book (or maybe just a blogpost) on all the interesting ones I see walking.

  1. Boston is a city of circles. In New York, I always knew exactly where I was and what it would take to get to where I wanted to go. After years in Boston, I'm still surprised when I walk down a new street and am like, "Oh, I'm here?"

  2. A coffee table book of manholes could be marketable. I'd buy one.
