Peddock's Island Take 2

It's been an exciting summer for me and Chris as we tried to figure out boat life. It took until Labor Day weekend for us to get our boat out overnight which would not have happened if Bill and Cathy had not graciously given up a sailing weekend for a motoring weekend.

The marina was anxious to get as many boats out on the water because they rent your slip out the moment you leave. If I knew who took our spot, I would have asked them to guest blog!

Howie once again did the amazing feat of getting us in and out of our slip and hopping into a moving skiff. It's a balancing act for me to get into a docked dinghy, so I find this pretty impressive.

One of the many things I appreciated about Bill and Cathy's tutelage was their inner dialogue of what they were thinking. It was a constant stream of "keep clear of that party boat with 20 people drinking beer because those boats tend to be erratic" or "you should get to the right because you only have 2 feet on the left, but don't worry no one is behind you." We're supposed to look behind us? The water gets shallow! Who knew?!

But beyond boating, there was so much else to learn about "living" on your boat when you are at anchor. My biggest concern was how to do we make coffee in the morning if we don't have shore power. But Chris had bigger fish to fry. The day leading up to departure was a crazy whirlwind of fixing the generator (battery had died), filling our water tanks (never did before), getting our dinghy back on top of the boat etc.
It was kind of intense. But again, our dock neighbors kept helping us out in their easy going ways and problem after problem got solved.

And then it was just fun. The first night we had a "burning block" fire on the beach with Emily and Greg (also D-Dockers) and their friends.
The second night, we had Colin and Ronit from Moondance, and Linda and Dave from Happy 'Our and their friends over to Betty. During the day, Tony and Phil came by to say hello with their new baby.
And I spent a LOT of time swimming. I couldn't get enough of the water and the sky
