The circle of life
When we were in Maine, Celia was reading this book she found in the “library.” I was telling Celia that John Updike used to call Leona who was the EIC of Ballantine Books when Jennifer and I worked there (and it all began!). When I looked at the copyright page, this particular copy was printed while we were there. I guess the chances of that happening is not that crazy, but it still gave me a bit of a chill.
Also, yesterday I wrote my longest post ever but I still forgot to mention a few key things. One is that I got seasick for the first time since we've owned the boat. Being at anchor is much more roly poly than when you're tied up at the marina. I was mostly fine as long as I didn't go into the galley to prepare food. But it did make me wonder if I could handle a long trip someday. Cathy and I did a pretty good job of figuring out easy to prepare, tasty food that required minimal galley time. But it was interesting to see how we used electricity. We turned the generator on a couple times a day for 20 minute spurts in which we'd charge our phones and cook something quick. People talk a lot about keeping a small footprint and I have to say a few days on a boat gives some real lessons on what that means and what you really need. And my final anecdote for today, I was looking at my steps for the last few days and on Sunday when we spent the entire day at anchor, my count was 23. That gave me a good laugh.
23! do you think you're in contention for the win w/ Jessie and Mike's marathon of steps they do each day! haha!
ReplyDeleteAh, Leona Nevler! If she only knew how she'd changed our lives. :)
