Road Trip!
Monday morning we left Maine for Boston for the first leg of our trip. It was just a brief visit, but considering Chris's work life these days, that may have been just as well. We also had a nice visit with the Mann's on their boat where I made everyone shiver outside for awhile because I wanted some deck time.
Tuesday morning bright and early we took off for Richmond. It definitely was not the quiet, easy Maine drive we are used to. I often thought Celia's little Subaru was going to get smashed between all the trucks. I'd go so far to say it felt like 1 out of 3 trucks on the road were Amazon. At this rest stop, I decided to skip getting gas because there was not a pump free due to all the Amazon vehicles. And of course this picture does not show the huge tractor trailer blue ones.
We got really excited when we started seeing signs for Richmond. But that is also when we started hitting the red zones on our Google Maps. It looked like our phones decided we were going back in time because instead of the ETA getting shorter, it just kept getting longer.
But then we arrived! Most of the residential architecture here are brick townhouses. But Celia and Ian have rented a kind of NY loft style space that's a converted garage.
We met the landlord who converted this building 3 years ago. I was impressed with the nice finishes he selected for everything. Including the polished concrete flooring which is tres expensive! Knowing how much Celia and Ian like to cook together, I think they are going to be very happy in this space. I can't wait to sit at that counter with a glass of wine and chit chat as they cook away for me!
Cool apartment! The way traffic is these days, it'll be the fate of most garages.
ReplyDeleteThat sure doesn't look like a starving student apartment!
