River into the Sea
Our marina is located at the mouth of the Charles river. The Gridley dam, with three individual locks for boat traffic, controls the surface level of the river basin, and prevents too much sea water from flowing into the Charles river during high tide.
In these pictures you can see water on the fresh river side has been accumulating ice, while the deeper and saltier harbor side, just a few feet away, does not.
But don't worry, we'll have some sea ice before long.
